Lot Essay

The reverse of the panel is stamped twice with the panel maker's mark of an anonymous Guild member known to have been active in the Rotterdam/Delft area during the second and third quarter of the 17th Century. Other marks by this maker have been found on panels used by the artists Anthonie Palamedes (1601-1673), sale, Phillips, London, Dec. 8, 1992, lot 116, and Cornelis Saftleven (1607-1681), the National Gallery of Scotland, Edinburgh, Inv. no. 1508.
