Property from the Collection of HAROLD AND RUTH URIS "Il est des signatures auxquelles on tient" translates "There are some signatures which one knows one can trust." Van Cleef & Arpels is one of those signatures and adopted this as a motto. The Uris family substantiates this statement and were truly loyal clients of Van Cleef & Arpels, as can be seen by the following collection of their jewelry. At the turn of the century, Van Cleef & Arpels began to achieve extraordinary success in Paris as "haute joailliers." This has continued to the present, mainly due to their famous invisibly-set jewelry, like the ruby and diamond flower brooch in this collection, lot 105. Besides the diamond ring, lot 107, which in this collection is by the "king of diamonds" Harry Winston, diamond necklaces are a foundation for most important collections. Van Cleef & Arpels has consistently designed timeless diamond necklaces such as Lot 103. It is set with marquise and circular-cut diamonds in a flexible platinum mounting to comfortably fit the neckline and move with the wearer. In the 1960's and 70's, the Arpel brothers were influenced by their travels to India and their Persian clientele to create grand parures such as this set of turquoise and diamond jewelry, Lots 95-98 and the set of emerald, sapphire and diamond flower jewelry, Lots 99-102. The Uris collection is a tribute to the diversity and lasting appeal of Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry.
