A BAMBOO-SHOOT-FORM EWER AND COVER

Of ovoid form with curved, cylindrical spout, curved handle, now restored, and fitted with a conical cover, the ewer modelled overall as a bamboo shoot with overlapping side sections carved in low relief and enhanced by incised lines, the tip of the shoot created by the pointed cover; covered by a lustrous and vivid green celadon glaze which pools crystalline and emerald in the well beneath the neck, at the spout, and in channels in the relief areas and incised lines of the body, the crackle varying, the foot, base and cylindrical stopper of the cover all unglazed--10 5/8in. (27.2cm.), handle restored, chip to end of spout
