Provenance: J. Wolley, contemporary signature on title-page, probably that of Sir John Wolley, d. 1596, who was Latin secretary to Queen Elizabeth from 1568 (which would explain the royal stamp), and one of the commissioners in the trial of Mary Queen of Scots -- G. Walkeden, inscription on title dated 6 Sept. 1680 -- John Evelyn, grandson of the collector, inscription on front pastedown, "J. Evelyn pretium 6d emptus in agro Hospitii Lincolniensis Londini 1703-4"-- Evelyn sale, Christie's London, part IV, 12-13 July 1978, lot 1663.
