The present model is typical of the small bronze statuettes which Jennewein conceived in the 1920's. These charming works, incorporating figures of small children, were inspired by the sculptor's own young family. Moreover, they stylistically reflect his years at the American Academy in Rome and his appreciation of the decorative quality of the Deco movement.
