Lot Essay

Although this bronze was made in Europe by a Frenchman who never visited the United States, the work is proof of the impact of the Continental tours of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. The naturalistically modelled Indian with his authentic war paint and costume added a romantic image to Barye's oeuvre.
