Lot Essay

Brown (1996) writes: "Circular cartouche within border of band. Central Sun (?) image, with semi sculptural humanoid face at center bottom of circle and U form "rays" extending up and out from the edges of the face. Identical profile sea lions flank the round cartouche as if reclining on their backs with their heads and necks turned upward. Round flipper-joint ovoids with full elaborated inner ovoids. Three rounded-off claws tip each flipper, and U form denotes each of the sea lion's tails. Spring-clip box clasp (non-Native jeweller-made?), and fine cross-hatching in nearly all ground areas."
