Each with rectangular drop-in seat covered in cream and pale green striped cotton flanked by out-curving pierced sides, on turned legs joined by H-form stretchers, some spindles replaced, traces of earlier green decoration

Lot Essay

The Grecian-scrolled arms are in the manner of a pattern published in 1803 by Thomas Sheraton in his Encyclopaedia, pl. 27. The simulated bamboo frames relate to those of a pair of window seats at Southill, Bedfordshire, illustrated in S. Whitbread, et. al., Southill, A Regency House, 1951, fig. 52.
