cover 1889 (31 Aug.) 3c. stationery card (1889 issue) addressed to Hamburg, marked "Via Singapore", bearing 1887-92 2c., 3c. and 8c. cancelled by oval of bars, used in combination with Straits Settlements 1882 8c. orange tied by "SINGAPORE/P.O." double-ring h.s. and showing, at lower left, Sandakan despatch c.d.s. in red overstruck by arrival d.s. with Singapore transit c.d.s. (6.9) on reverse. A fine and very rare commercial usage. The message, in German, between brothers includes "There are in all 50 English in Sandakan, and I am the only German". B.P.A.
