BERRYMAN, D.S.O., 70TH QUEEN'S ROYAL REGIMENT, STATIONED AT TEIGNMOUTH, DEVON, DURING WORLD WAR II, WHO WHEN OVERLOOKING THE SEA FRONT, WAS HEARD TO DEMAND TESTILY 'WHAT ON EARTH ARE ALL THOSE HEATH ROBINSON CONTRAPTIONS DOING ON THE BEACH?', REFERING TO VARIOUS STEEL BARS WHICH HAD BEEN POSITIONED ON THE SAND TO DETER THE LANDING OF THE ENEMY.
