In a letter from T.W. Philipps, Office of Works, the New Palace of Westminster, to Edward James Dent, dated 12 February 1852
Sir, By desire of the commissioners of the Her Majesty's Works, &C., I am to transmit to you the two drawings enclosed, Signed "G.B. Airy and E.B. Denison, and dated 29 January 1852;" and I am to communicate to you the following observations and suggestions by the these gentlemen for the great clock proposed for the Houses of Parliament, vis.:.....
A letter from Edward James Dent to T.W. Philipps dated 16 Februry 1852; Sir, I beg leave to acquaint you, for the informtion of the Honorable Board of Commissioners of Her Majesty's Woods and Works, that I have received your letter of 12th instant and two plans accompanying the same, signed G.B. Airy, Esq., Astronomer Royal and E.B. Denison, Esq., for the construction of the large clock for the New Palace at Westminster. In reply, I have to state, that having considered the subject of the letter and the plans, I beg leave to inform you that I accept the proposals therein contained.
