A similar example is illustrated in Chinese Ceramics from the Idemitsu Collection, Catalogue, no.744. It is relatively rare to find phoenixes rather than dragons used as decoration in this type, especially juxtaposed with cockerels. A blue and white wall vase with a similar lotus frame around the mark is illustrated in the Min Chiu Society Thirtieth Anniversary Exhibition, Selected Treasures of Chinese Art, Catalogue, p.304, no.137
