Louis Comfort Tiffany, son of the firm's founder, is recognised as a master of Art Nouveau glass and enamel. After 1902, Tiffany & Co. established a special Art Jewellery Department for the manufacture and sale of Louis Tiffany's jewellery. According to Janet Zapata, only 350 pieces were made for this department - each reflecting L C Tiffany's interest in the interplay between opaque, transparent and translucent gems and in finely-wrought filigree and hammered gold settings.
