AN UNDERGLAZE COPPER-RED 'SANDUO' STEMBOWL
XUANDE SIX-CHARACTER MARK, 18TH CENTURY

The bowl with rounded sides and flaring rim, raised on a slightly spreading stem, the exterior painted with the sanduo, 'Three Abundances', peach, pomegranate and persimmon, evenly spaced around the widest part, the interior with the encircled nianhao (small rim restoration and minute nick)
5 7/8 in. (15 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

An example of the early Ming prototype, but unmarked and including anhua decoration, is illustrated in Oriental Ceramics, Kodansha Series, vol. 5, no. 171, from the British Museum. The present example is closely realted to early 15th Century prototypes.
