Finely peeled and carved in shallow relief to depict a scholar mounted on a horse beside his attendant carrying parcels, inscribed and signed Mo Lan, dated rechen corresponding to either 1832 or 1892; together with two small bamboo incense containers, one carved with scholars drinking wine, the other inset with soapstone pieces depicting pavilions, boats, rocks and butterflies
