A BRIGHT APPLE-GREEN SEMI-TRANSLUCENT JADEITE FIGURE OF LUXING
19TH CENTURY

The God of Affluence, one of the Three Star Gods, shown holding a ruyi sceptre with his right hand while his left hand rests on his court belt, a tab extending from below it incised with shou characters, wearing long, full robes and a cap decorated with a lotus blossom, the attendant standing on an outcropping of rocks to the side holding a vase filled with a blossoming peony branch, further carved around the sides with two bats and lingzhi fungus which along with leaves of the plantain plant carved on the reverse from an open framework around the figures highlighting the translucency and colour of the stone which shades from greenish white to bright apple green with flecks of emerald green

Compare the figure of this type, also depicting Luxing, from the collection of T. Jack and Gladys H. Foster, sold in our New York Rooms, 21/22 September 1995, lot 442. A complete set of jadeite figures of the Three Star Gods, Shouxing, Luxing and Fuxing, the Gods of Longevity, Affluence and Happiness, of comparable size to the present lot, from an American private collection, was sold in these Rooms, 25 October 1993, lot 105.
