INCISED QIANLONG FOUR-CHARACTER MARK WITHIN A DOUBLE SQUARE AND OF THE PERIOD

Of mallet form with a tall cylindrical neck, the opaque metal of rich even celadon tone
4 3/4 in. (12.2 cm.) high

Lot Essay

Compare with a slightly smaller 18th century vase (9.2 cm.) of the same shape and colour, included in the exhibition Treasures from the Lakeside Pavilion, jointly presented by the Virginia and Edward Chow Foundation and Collections Baur, Geneva, 1988-1989, Catalogue, no. G9, p. 24; and a vase of the same colour and reign mark but with a lipped rim, sold in Hong Kong, 31 October 1995, lot 656.

A transparent red vase of the same shape from the Palace Museum, Beijing, is illustrated in Zhongguo Meishu Quanji, no. 250.
