A RARE SANCAI-GLAZED CIRCULAR BOX AND COVER, HE
TANG DYNASTY

The shallow domed cover glazed on the top surface with streaked pattern of amber and straw splashes reserved on a blue ground pooling to one side, the circular exterior under a brown glaze stopping in scallops around the base (areas of glaze retouched, interior rim chip)
3¾in. (9.5cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

A similar but smaller box was sold in our London Rooms, 7 December 1992, lot 21.
