In 1959 Cadillac parted company with General Motors top designer, Harley Earl, and launched the swan song of the decadent 50's chrome and tail fin style. GM's art and color studio created one the greatest icons of the 1950's automotive era, the 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible. The 130 inch wheelbase was propelled by a 345 horsepower engine with Tri-power carburettors. The car's power did not stop with its drivetrain. Standard power accessories were abundant including: windows, locks, steering, brakes, antenna, a self closing power trunk and convertible top.
The luxurious Eldorado captured the attention of the American public with its lavish and unprecedented styling innovations. The 1959 model, unlike any car of its time, wore its tailights at the crest of its raised rear fins. The styling of the 1959 Eldorado was reflective of a post-war America in which the influences of aviation on the American automobile were evident on many of the cars produced during the 1950s. The '59 Eldorado demonstrates this with its jet exhaust inspired rear taillights framed by the extravagant and highly detailed rear chrome grillework. The numerous styling distinctions, combined with the limited production number of 1,320 Biarritz models made it an instant classic. The 1959 Cadillac Eldorado has been romanticized through song and story and has long been a favorite automobile of American pop culture and is, accordingly, one of the most sought after American automobiles ever created.
The Biarritz on offer is an exquisite example of a highly dedicated and complete restoration by the owner. The entire process took almost three years to complete with no expense spared. The Wood Rose paint and chrome are to show quality standard. The engine bay is highly detailed with the original engine block resprayed and rebuilt to the correct specifications. The trunk contains all the cloth coverings including the spare tire cover. The white convertible top appears to be in excellent condition and complements the triple wide whitewalls attractively. The interior features black Cardiff grain leather with matching black Florentine leather bolsters and trim. The gracious interior appointments and independent coil suspension provide both the driver and passengers with a more than satisfactory ride in the plushest of environments. The Eldorado offered here has been awarded trophies in several events including the Forest Grove and Fort Gardner Concours in addition to being presented with medals following a judging by the Cadillac-LaSalle Club and would most certainly continue to be an impressive presence in shows and competition.
