A magnificent wine. Roughly a dozen consistent notes, most memorably at Jack Plumb's Bordeaux Club dinners in his rooms at Christs', Cambridge in June 1987 and December 1991: gloriously deep and intense, a sort of velvety opacity; bouquet subdued at first despite being decanted two hours prior to serving, then opened up and held spicely in the glass for 1.5 hours. Ripe sweetness on the palate, full, fleshy, great length. Perfection. M.B.
