Pomerol, cru exceptionnel. English-bottled by Avery's of Bristol
Slightly bin-soiled labels. Levels: seven base of neck and five top-shoulder
Bottled in Bristol by the redoubtable Ronald Avery, a good friend of Jack Plumb. What is interesting is that English claret lovers had every confidence in their merchant's bottlings; indeed they had a better reputation than many Bordeaux châteaux (I recall witnessing a classed-growth Médoc bottling on a murky damp day in August, using staff who found it too wet to continue spraying the vines). M.B.
