A COLLECTION OF CLASSIC WINES.The Property Of.THE DEPARTMENT OF VITICULTURE AND ENOLOGY.OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, DAVIS.This extraordinary collection was donated to the Department of Viticulture and Enology of the University of California, Davis, by a western wine Collector in 1979. The wines were removed from the collector's temperature-controlled storage by the University, and placed in storage of 54 degrees Farenheit and 80 humidity on campus. The most important wine the collection is being sold in this sale to raise funds to promote the Department's three-fold mission: the teaching of future winemakers, the improvement of enological research, and continuing education for professionals in the wine industry..Zachys-Christie's staff checked a number of wines in the collection and found them to be in fine to outstanding condition for age. Because of the age, quantity, and rarity of many of the wines in the collection, a wide range of samples will be available to bidders at the pre-sale tasting..Several of the older wines were recorked by UC Davis staff, using the same wine to top up the bottles. These bottles were not recapsuled. Sample wines from recorked bottles were tasted as well and were found to be in fine condition; these are being offered at reduced estimates..Bidders should note that as much of the wine was stored in bins, most labels, except those wines still in original cases or cartons, have light bin-soiling..
