FIRST EDITION IN FRENCH, A FINE COPY PRESENTED BY THE TRANSLATOR TO THE AUTHOR. The inscription reads "A Sir Ernest Shackleton Hommage d'un de son plus fervent admirateurs Charles Rabot". Rabot had previously translated works by Nordenskjöld (the voyage of the "Vega") and William Conway (the first crossing of Spitsbergen) and had published works on travel and exploration of the Russian and European Artic regions. He was therefore well placed to judge the level of Shackleton's achievements; [Together with:] a part work from Sir Ernest's library (Report of the second Norwegian arctic expedition in the "Fram" 1898-1902.
