A BLACK STEATITE FUNERARY STATUE OF KASA
DYNASTY XIX, REIGN OF RAMESSES II, 13TH CENTURY B.C.
Wearing tripartite wig, beaded broad collar, and long pleated wrap-around kilt tied below the navel, holding a hoe and mattock in each hand and carrying a seed-basket over his left shoulder, an inscription down the front of his kilt reading: "The Osirid Kasa, Justified, In Peace" and five lines around his garment from Chapter 6 of the Book of the Dead (v. 149), mounted

Lot Essay

Given the titles of Royal Scribe and General, his tomb was found at Saqqara where a number of funerary figurines in other materials were found. Cf. J-F. and L. Aubert, Statuettes égyptiennes, Paris, 1974, pp. 99 and 101.
