Lot Essay

In the contendings of Horus and Seth, Thoth replaces the damaged eye of Horus with the Eye of the Moon. Cf. Five Years of Collecting Egyptian Art 1951-1956, The Brooklyn Museum, New York, 1956, no. 45 for a 'faience' figure of Thoth holding a wedjat-eye, from Tune el Gebel.
