A COMPLETE OLD BABYLONIAN LEGAL DOCUMENT AND PART OF ITS ENVELOPE

Concerning a remission of debt with names of witnesses, minor surface repair to reverse, 2.7/8 x 1¾ in. (7.5 x 4.3 cm.); with half of its envelope, repaired, 2¾ x 1½ in. (6.9 x 3.8 cm.) max., mounted; an Ur III tablet, with 23 lines of Sumerian text, a receipt for barley, upper edge missing, 2½ x 1¾ in. (6.3 x 4.4 cm.); a complete tablet, 15 lines, a receipt for male sheep, flakes to one corner, 2.1/8 x 1.5/8 in. (5.5 x 4.2 cm.); another administrative tablet, 9 lines, a receipt or inventory for various objects made of reeds, traces of seal impressions, obverse only remaining, 2.5/8 x 11¾ in. (6.7 x 4.4 cm.), all circa 2050 B.C.; a complete small foundation cone of Nam-mahani, ruler of Lagash, 3 lines of Sumerian text, 2113-2111 B.C., 3.3/8 in. (8.5 cm.) long; another complete small cone of Sin-Kashid, king of Uruk, worn, 1865-1804 B.C., 2.3/8 in. (6 cm.) long; and nine Mesopotamian hardstone, shell and frit cylinder seals, including an Old Babylonian black stone seal showing a presentation scene with a male worshipper being led by a goddess towarded a seated deity, another diminutive worshipper between them, a crescent moon above, a two-line inscription reads "Shamas, Aya", the sun god and his consort, 20th Century B.C., 1.3/8 in.
