A COMPLETE UR III CUNEIFORM TABLET
REIGN OF KING SHULGI, YEAR 45, 2050 B.C.
Clearly inscribed with 33 lines of Sumerian text, a record of seed barley and oil for use in the temple for cultic offerings, the account covering the eleventh and twelfth months of the year, from Lagash, small flake over two lines, 3½ x 1¾ in. (8.8 x 4.5 cm.); and an Egyptian red, turquoise and white glazed composition cylindrical bead necklace, restrung, late 2nd/early 1st millennium B.C. (2)

Lot Essay

Item one: an accompanying handwritten note is dated 1 December 1916. The tablet had been shown to Dr. Budge, Chief Curator of the British Museum, who had given a brief translation of the tablet. However "... owing to the war the subordinate curators are away and he could not undertake to give a full translation."
