Lot Essay

A pen and ink drawing in the Minton Ornamental Shape Book identifies the model as shape 267, a Svres three-light wall bracket. Although the designs in this ledger are not dated, shape numbers were issued chronologically. 1838-1840 can thus be extrapolated as a production date, an unusually early date for the production of Svres copies by the Minton factory. (see Joan Jones, Minton, the First Two Hundred Years of Design and Production, Shrewsbury, England, 1993, pp. 80-88, 374).
