The wallpaper adapted to form these panels is after a set by Rveillon, the leading manufacturer of decorative panels of the 18th century. The original set dates from 1788 and an example which appears as 600 in the firm's records is in the Muse des Arts Dcoratifs, Paris, illustrated in L. Hoskins, The Papered Wall, New York, 1994, p. 82, figs. 105-6. A set of six panels of this pattern was sold Sotheby's Monaco, 14 June 1982, lot 431, while a set of three was sold in these Rooms, 30-31 October 1996, lot 416.
