A large Chinese blue and white three-piece composite garniture
The porcelain Kangxi (1662-1722), the gilding later
Comprising a baluster jar and cover and two beaker vases, painted with rows of petal-shaped panels enclosing each flowering plants, below a washed-blue band reserved in white with a lotus-scroll, the slightly splayed foot encircled by a zigzag-pattern border, all reserved on gilt grounds, the domed cover similarly decorated and surmounted by knop finial (one jar with polished rim, one beaker repaired, chips, gilding rubbed)

Inscribed with an inventory number '7225'.

The honey-gilt ground may have been applied after arrival in Europe. It was not unusual for Chinese porcelain to be gilded in workshops where European ceramics received a similar treatment (e.g. Augsburg (Germany) where Meissen porcelain was gilded in the 18th Century).
