oval, 2.5/8 in. (67 mm.) high, silver-gilt frame, the reverse with lock of hair, seed pearls and gold wire on opalescent glass within blue enamel surround and light blue, white and pink enamel border

Lot Essay

Sir Charles Blicke (1745-1815) was a prominent surgeon and accumulated a large fortune through his practice in London. Educated at St. Bartholomew's Hospital, he was elected assistant-surgeon and later surgeon. He was one of the court assistants at Surgeons Hall in 1801 and became a governor of the College of Surgeons and was knighted in 1803.
