With applied rounded edges, trefoil handles, on plain plinth base, comprising an armoire with four cupboard doors opening to reveal a fitted interior, a double-bed with two small bedside cabinets, a dressing-table with central arched mirror above a small rectangular shelf and two small cabinet with rectangular cupboard door, a small circular centre-table and a pair of side-chairs with padded seat and back upholstered in green velvet
Armoir: 180cm. high x 210cm. wide x 60cm. deep, beds: 92.5cm. high x 206cm. wide x 205cm. long, cabinets: 59cm. high x 38.5cm. wide x 35cm. deep, dressing-table: 171cm. high x 136cm. wide x 40cm. deep, table: 62cm. high x 63.5cm. diam.
All with original metal tag marked Pander & Zonen Den Haag Amsterdam Rotterdam, the armoire and dressing-table additionally branded H. Pander & Zn.

Lot Essay

From 1924 until 1934 Paul Bromberg was associated with the firm of Pander & Zonen in The Hague where he worked at the department of Modern Interior Decoration. As well as his designs for complete interiors, he also designed furniture which was mainly produced in series. The furniture which Bromberg designed in his early years at Pander shows his affinity with the designs of Amsterdam School artists like Piet Kramer and Hildo Krop through is use of the plastic form. However, it is more modest design. The decorative aspect was not attained by sculptural details but by the application of expensive woods which Pander had in stock giving his designs a sense of luxury.
