Lot Essay
Antoni Kozakiewicz spent most of his life, nearly thirty years, in Munich. He started his studies in Cracow where he took private tuition and later joined the School of Fine Arts. During his lifetime his works were sought after by dealers and private collectors all over the world. Kozakiewicz was primarily a Genre painter depicting the life in town and country of his Polish compatriots, often Cracovians or Tatra Highlanders in colourful costumes with a richness in detail. His critics praised his works and believed that :"..there was always a fresh thought, charm and warmth in them, that detail was superbly wrought and the composition charmingly designed" (see E. Charazinska, E. M. Broniarek and A. Tyczynska, Polish Painting in Private Collections. Unfamiliar works by outstanding Artists, Warsaw, 1995, p.50).
