Lot Essay

The present work was in the private collection of Grand Duke Alexander Alexandrovich (1845-1894) who, in 1881, became Tsar Alexander III. His engraved label is attached to the back of the panel as is a printed label from the Anichkov Palace with, in manuscript, the cipher of Alexander and an inscription stating that the work is no. 342 in His Highnesses personal collection.
