Lot Essay
To be included in the forthcoming Fernand Léger sculptures polychromes catalogue raisonné being prepared by Jean-Pierre Camard, as the preparatory work for the ceramic of the same subject.
The present work, with Lot 12, were given by Léger to Roland Brice, his collaborator on his ceramic work. Brice established a sculpture studio in Biot in 1949, and began to translate Léger's drawings and motifs into sculptural form. The following year Léger himself moved to Biot and presented L'accordéoniste and Fleur qui marche to Brice on completion of each project.
