This vase was commissioned by Aberdeen City Council as a wedding gift for Princess Mary as part of a garniture comprising two vases and a pedestal bowl, all with an Egyptian theme; Fereday having been inspired by the then recent disovery of Tutenkhamun's tomb. See 'Glass and Pottery as Royal Wedding Presents', The Pottery Gazette and Glass Trade Review, April 1, 1922. The other vase from the garniture was sold in our South Kensington Rooms in The Michael Parkington Collection, Part I, 16 and 17 October 1997, lot 315.
