The patch box maker's mark of Thomas Tysoe, the second Amsterdam, apparently late eighteenth century
The oval patch box with base engraved with lush foliate scrolls, diamond band to sides, the hinged cover engraved with cupid approaching a thorny rose bush, engraved with motto QUI SY FROTE SY PIS QUE--1in. (4.5cm.) long, the rounded rectangular tobacco box sides engraved with husk swags, the cover and base with biblical scenes of the ascension, Jesus in the manger, the annunciation and another, gilt lined--6in. (15.9cm.) long, 7oz. (2)
