FIRST EDITIONS. The first number contains Mayo's description of his discovery of the functions of the Vth and VIIth cranial nerves. The second number contains his demonstration that a "circumscribed segment of the nervous system (in this case, a section of the brain containing the optic tubercles and the crura) sufficed to produce muscular action" (Norman).
