Sir James Lowther, 2nd Bt. (d. 1755), Whitehaven, from whom inherited by Sir William Lowther, 3rd Bt. (1727-1756; inventory of pictures removed from Whitehaven to Holker 1755, no. 123 'a Hermitage on board'), and by inheritance at Holker through his cousin Lord George Augustus Cavendish (d. 1794) and the latter's nephew George Cavendish, 1st Earl of Burlington (1754-1834).
