Lot Essay

According to Patek Philippe, this watch was produced in 1936 and sold on 22 July 1939.

Patek Philippe produced only a limited quantity of the simple moon phase calendar wristwatch, the exact number being unknown. It was made in two case styles, round or tonneau and in either yellow gold or platinum. The simple calendar preceded the perpetual calendar wristwatch, which was produced in series only after 1941.

A similar watch is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, first edition p. 211 pl. 362 and second edition p. 279 pl. 433 and in Armbanduhren, fifth edition, by Kahlert, Mhe, Brunner, p. 386.
