Circular, the fluted stand with scroll and bead border and resting on four palm foliage feet, the two-handled tureen with similarly chased foot, the upper part of the body with repoussé and chased husk festoons and applied lion's masks drop ring handles beneath band of scrolls enclosing quatrefoils, the cover chased with four acanthus foliage medallions with guilloche band above, fluted domed centre with pomegranate finial, with plated two-handled liner, marked on footrim, cover and stand, the footrim and stand also stamped Puiforcat Paris

Lot Essay

This pot-à-oille is after that by Jean-Vincent Huguet in métal plaqué, Paris, circa 1780. The original was in the Puiforcat collection, then the Niarchos collection and is now in the Louvre Museum, Paris.
