On three paw feet with acanthus leaves terminals, the urn-shaped body with eagle's head spout, the hinged cover with bud finial and water-leaf border, flat-loop wood handle, engraved with coat-of-arms beneath a Marquess coronet, marked on base, body and cover

786 gr. (25 oz.) gross.

Lot Essay

The coat-of-arms is that of Charles-Francois d'Aviau du Bois de Sanzay, born in 1736. He was consecrated in 1790, Bishop of Vienne and subsequently Bishop of Bordeaux in 1802. He died on 11 July 1826.
