A German silver and ivory travelling necessaire in leather case
Augsburg, circa 1670, maker's mark probably that of Matthias Gelb
In shaped oblong brown leather case tooled with gilt fleur-de-lys, enclosing a silver-mounted ivory tablet with covers on one side with a bowing gentleman and on the other a standing lady, a trapeze-shaped two-sided hand mirror and a three-pronged fork, a silver bladed knife and a spoon each with detachable handles cast and chased with fluted and cane motifs and baluster ball finial, one finial pierced for salt, marked on spoon
the case 10 cm. (4 in.) long; the knife with handle 16.4 cm. (6½ in.) long
