A FRENCH GILT-BRONZE AND BLACK-PAINTED MANTEL CLOCK
19th Century
The cylinder movement with outside countwheel striking on a single bell, inscribed Auguste Breul, No.20 Rue Albouy. A. Paris, with engine engraved silvered dial, enclosed by a bezel cast with a continous band of stylised leaves, contained within a case formed as a barrel, a negro slave to one side holding a club in his right hand and a sack pouring coffee beans into the barrel over his left shoulder, a palm tree to the other side, on octangular base, the frieze cast with a scene of two children tying sugar cane, flanked on either side by panels of insects, on turned tapering supports, the dial rubbed and with one replaced hand
