Lot Essay

The sitter was the daughter of Oncko, Heer van Böllinghausen en Eysveld (1716/17-1776) and Dodonea Helena van Böllinghausen en Eysveld neé van Wyckel (1717-1752). She married Wicher van Swinderen van Rheden in 1774, who was to become judge in the city of Groningen in 1777 and a member of the Municipaliteit in 1795.
The pendant to the present lot was sold at the Fraeylemaborg Sale, Mak van Waay Amsterdam, 10 May 1971, lot 197 (photograph in the Iconografisch Bureau, The Hague). In the same year Hosson also painted Octavia's father, now in a private collection, and her elder sister, Johanna Catherina Aleida (1754-1777), in the Fraeylemaborg collection, Slochteren (photographs in the Iconografisch Bureau, The Hague).
