Lot Essay

Now almost a forgotten master, the artist was famous in his own time as a landscape and genre-painter active in Brussels. He revitalised animal painting of the Dutch Golden Age, which he studied during his journey to the Netherlands. His ambition to equal Paulus Potter is evident in the present lot.
