Lot Essay

(1) A similar landscape dated 1553 by an anonymous hand is in the Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest, H.G. Franz, Niederländische Landschaftsmalerei im Zeitalter des Manierismus, Graz, 1969, II, p. 100, fig. 187. An attribution to Lucas Gassel has also been suggested.
