Lot Essay

Allaert van Everdingen, born in Alkmaar and active in Amsterdam, was a pupil of Roelant Savery and later of Pieter Molijn in Haarlem. He is thought to have visited Norway and Sweden circa 1643-4, and became popular for his Scandinavian landscapes. He is also known to have produced six complete series of the Twelve Months, usually depicting imaginary landscapes like the present view.
