Lot Essay

The inscription suggests that this is a view outside Brussels, probably done during the artist's journey through Flanders in 1649, from which views of Brussels and Malines are known, cf. R. Jellema, M. Plomp, Episcopius, Jan de Bisschop (1618-1671), lawyer and draughtsman, exhib. catalogue, Zwolle Amsterdam, p. 25, no. 3.
