Lot Essay

Beerstraten is mainly known for his topographical views in Holland and those done during his supposed journeys to Norway and Switzerland. Although he often depicted Mediterranean harbours, it is uncertain if he travelled to Italy, and he is assumed to have used sketches by Johannes Lingelbach (c. 1624-1674) as inspiration for his own work.
